HOW TO GET READY FOR GOING BACK TO "WORK."

I wonder what you are doing to regroup and recalibrate when you return to (a new) normal in the coming months?

Whenever change comes, there is always a level of adapting to the dynamics of the NEW. Even in our personal lives, change brings about new dynamics where we have to acclimatise.

I remember key moments of change in my life where shifts and adjustments had to happen. For example, when I got married, the dynamics with my extended family needed to change to make room for my new marital relationship. I couldn’t just say ‘Yes, I’ll be there for Christmas’ I had to check that my husband wanted to be with my family for Christmas. The arrival of our 1st baby meant that a change took place in our marriage as we adjusted to make room for the baby. Baby 2 arrived, and again another shift had to take place as we all acclimatised to another new normal. I couldn’t just coo over my firstborn and bathe him alone, I had to share my affections and attention with another baby.

Whether it’s moving house, a new job, new friends etc, or new covid regulations, whenever something new appears in life the old order of things has to jostle about to make room for the new.

This new normal is coming. Another shuffle, more adapting, a bit more uncertainty and also a bit of familiarity from the past, we hope. How can you get both yourself as a leader and your organisation into a strong position ready for this new regrouping?

I’ve been thinking about this concept of REGROUPING.

The definition of 'Regroup' is:

“To reassemble or cause to reassemble into organised groups, typically after being attacked or defeated.”

How can you reassemble your teams into organised groups? Have your teams, their communication, team balance, innovation or life balance been affected, attacked or defeated this year? Do you know what war wounds your teams have from this past year that may negatively impact your leadership or organisation?

Biblical teaching that sheds light on this says "if you put new wine into old wineskins they will burst. You have to put new wine into new wineskins.” As we return to another new normal, how can you create a new wineskin?

To know how and what to do to lead well, take some intentional time to focus on ‘The TEAM’ dynamic. What is working well, and what is not.

I have been so impressed this year as I have seen organisations invest in the 1-1 wellbeing of their people. However, the diaspora effect of teams working apart has left many leaders not knowing how to bring connection and productive collaboration within the team dynamic.

As your think about regrouping your teams, take time to explore & examine how your team is functioning together as a group, to create a wineskin that will enable innovation, productivity, performance & wellbeing. A tool like PCS would be well worth an investment at this time as you regroup. Finding a tool that gives you a realistic & clear measure of how your team is faring up will set you up to move forward with efficiency with that all-important new wineskin. Get ahead of the curve by knowing how your team is doing… really doing.
